Profile: Steve Nelson, Dance Instructor

Steve has an extensive background in various athletic endeavors. Prior to focusing more exclusively on Ballroom dancing, he participated in other sports and excelled at a high competitive level. He then spent some years in ice-skating and roller-skating, winning numerous awards to add to his athletic awards collection. Ballet and tennis have also been some of his other artistic/athletic endeavors.

He has been involved in the ballroom dance world for over 20 years now, and has full membership status with the C.D.T.A., having passed all exams with honours.

Steve has extensive skills with teaching dance techniques, proper posture and tempo. His aim is to help dancers look good on the dance floor through his clear understanding of human physiology and his exceptional ability to identify, articulate and demonstrate the adjustments necessary.

Some of his dance awards include Pro-Am Top Teacher and several of his students have won Top Student awards. He was one of the first teachers in this area to offer children’s classes and some of these students have gone on to excel in the junior and adult sections.
More recently, he has worked with dancers who have made it to the finals of So You Think You Can Dance Canada. He is also an adjudicator of Standard and Latin dance competitions and is known for being dedicated and going the extra mile in his efforts to help his students improve and achieve their goals.

Steve continues to take lessons from some of the finest teachers in Canada and around the world, so that he remains current with the latest techniques and trends.

Currently, he teaches group classes every Tuesday evening at the 30-Up Club and also offers Practice Sessions at the club every Wednesday. As well, he frequently guest teaches at various locations throughout the G.T.A. and continues to offer very comprehensive, quality private lessons, available at your convenience.
